Carla Bruni- Sarkozy and Her President in England.

A State Visit to England always entails a lot of work when it comes to getting the brass polished, but what was shown yesterday for the visit of President Sarkozy of France and his new wife,- more well known for nude portraits, seemed to me as a Brit, and despite everything a Royalist, a little over the top.

Not that I have anything against La Grande Nation. Not more than the average Brit. We just seem to have been at loggerheads with them for the last thousand years.

Luckily after William the Conqueror we always came out on top, and I can’t help thinking that was what the message was about yesterday.
Up until now Nicolas Sarkozy hasn’t had too many admirers. Angela doesn’t care for him, and I don’t think even George was flattered by his dripping charm.

HRH The Prince of Wales showed that even an Englishman could outdo him, when it came to hand kissing.

HRH The Prince Phillip, seemed to really win over Madame Bruni- Sarkozy, but then he always had a way with women, and doesn’t seem to have lost it even at his age.

HM The Queen got out the Golden Coach, and put on so many jewels of immense worth that her head and neck must really ache today.

Even the great hall at Windsor Castle was used as dinner venue-everyone has Palaces.

“I have the ambition to work hand in hand with the English” President Sarkozy told us.

Does he indeed.

I don’t think Gordan Brown will be bowled over.

The Royal Family probably have not amused themselves so much in a long time.

And the crowds only came to look at Carla.

The President certainly has one thing the others haven’t

Oh Do Belt Up!

There were always certain “must haves, and must do’s” if you were a visitor to Switzerland. Apart from opening a Bank Account. Cheese Fondue had to be tasted, and Chocolate of course, and miniature or otherwise Cowbells taken home for the neighbours.

One item that was always very sought after was an Appenzeller Farmers Belt. Tourists still buy them but they definitively went out of fashion in Switzerland with the oncome of the big Italian G, and George Bush’s Texas Style.

Pity really, for they were a superb belt for holding up Jeans and virtually unbreakable, providing you had an original leather one with its brass applications. Like the farmers of the two counties in the north east of Switzerland, tough and weathered with a good sprinkling of humour.

The last time I actually saw one being worn was on Kia in Canada last December, and she had it around her neck.

Now I’m not a fashion freak as I don’t like standing out in a crowd, which I do anyway, but I like to keep up with what women are wearing and adapt it to my style and wardrobe-(takes years off of you ) So it was with interest that I read about a slowly coming trend. Appenzeller Farmers Belts. Just the thing for Jeans, and matches everything apparently.
If you happened to want an absolute original from the first little store in Appenzell that made them you could pay over a thousand francs (about the same in dollars) for it.

Now Kia ‘s Mother gave me one, an original bought from one of her first pay checks, and it has been leading a quiet life at the back of one of my drawers for a long time now.

I got it out,it still looks like new and it even fits.

I’m wearing it in my Jeans today.

Brush your teeth and save a face lift

Even at my age,I don’t have many wrinkles (nasty word). I have always put that down primarily to good genes, the fact that I have never smoked, and my attitude towards life.

I am rather vain, although I know vanity is a sin.I wouldn’t dream of going out the door except to the post box without lipstick to say nothing of lip liner.

I have nice looking teeth, and I brush them at least fout times a day.

I believe that women who feel down in the dumps (a minor state of depression) should go to the hairdressers rather than wasting money on clothes they don’t want.

Good Hairdressers are wonderful people. They can listen, give advice, and take ten years off your life if you are over fifty.

It was during one of my regular overhauls by Claudia that I read an interesting article in one of the womens magazines there.

The article was on Facial Yoga, and it stated that by doing certain excercises regularly, like blowing air into your cheeks and areas between teeth and gums the effect could be better than a face lift.

Naturally I hid my head behind the magazine and hoped nobody would be look while I tried the ideas out.

Would you believe it,the feeling was like cleaning your teeth without a toothbrush.

So now I know over the years applying lipstick and brushing my teeth really paid off .
